Selection Criteria

  • Economic Need: Financial eligibility is determined by participation in a school's free and reduced lunch program under federal Title I guidelines.
  • Academic Potential: Students should be reading above grade level. Students should be demonstrating math skills at or above grade level. Students with AIMS scores that fall primarily in the "below average" category should not be considered.
  • Conduct: Because Arizona Quest for Kids (AQFK) students have the opportunity to attend many community events, students selected should not have a history of disciplinary problems. Students selected will be those that will represent the AQFK program, their school and their families well.
  • Teacher's Recommendation: Students must have a completed recommendation form from one or more teachers. The teacher should be able to substantiate the reasons for their recommendation(s) and consider themselves to be a "sponsor" of that student. If problems arise for the student in the future, the recommending teacher should be available for consultation.
  • Parent/Guardian Agreement: Parent/Guardian will sign a contract specifying the requirements for their child's participation in AQFK.
  • Attendance and Mobility: Attendance and mobility will be taken into consideration. The student will need to demonstrate that there is a likelihood of their continued attendance at their school.
