College Guidance
2010 Annual High School ConferenceThe greatest predictors of retention in high school and access to college are a focus on academic skills and a supportive counseling environment. Arizona Quest for Kids provides ongoing counseling from the fifth grade through high school graduation with a focus on academic improvement. Arizona Quest for Kids works diligently to ensure that students are college bound, outlining how the students can become college ready through academic rigor, community service, extracurricular activities, sports, and/or part-time employment. Students adhere to specific responsibilities to assist in their preparation for college.
A critical distinction is Arizona Quest for Kids’ individualized work with students throughout the senior year of high school in the college, financial aid, and scholarship application processes, a program which began in the 2008-2009 academic year. During these one-on-one meetings, students create a high school resume, a personal statement, and research and apply to colleges and scholarships. High school seniors are required to complete and submit the FAFSA and a minimum of six scholarship applications. Additionally, Arizona Quest for Kids hosts ongoing FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and Scholarship Nights. FAFSA Nights allow students and parents to complete and submit their FAFSA, and Scholarship Nights allow students to research and apply for scholarships with assistance from Program Managers.
