Become an AQFK Mentor

Are you interested in making a difference in the life of a child, learning more about yourself, giving back to our community and having fun? Mentoring is the cornerstone of the Arizona Quest for Kids (AQFK) program.

Why Mentor?

Research confirms that mentoring:

  • Improves school attendance and academic achievement;
  • Decreases the chance that a student will use drugs or alcohol;
  • Increases the likelihood that a student will attend college; and
  • Leads to a more positive attitude and improved relationships with peers and family.

Am I Qualified?

A mentor is not a tutor; teacher; guardian or disciplinarian. A mentor is simply a caring adult who devotes time to a child. Arizona Quest for kids mentors are also:

  • Good listeners;
  • Champions of education;
  • Consistent and reliable;
  • Goal oriented; and
  • Flexible

What Will My Commitment Be?

After completing orientation and training, Arizona Quest for Kids mentors make a commitment to:

  • Meet with their mentee one hour per week for at least one complete school year;
  • Assist their mentee in developing and achieving personal goals;
  • Attend events and field trips when possible; and
  • Participate in ongoing mentor training opportunities
